Field notes

Field Notes is the working journal of Channel House. Part research log, part design diary, it documents how materials are created, tested, and refined, and how they behave over time in real conditions. This is where process is recorded rather than polished, and curiosity leads the way.

Entries explore the material life of the studio, from glaze formulation and clay bodies to pigments, fibers, finishes, and surface development. We look closely at how things age, wear, and interact with light, use, and environment. What changes in the kiln. What softens with washing. What deepens with time. These observations shape how our collections evolve and how they ultimately live in the world.

Field Notes is written for designers, trade professionals, and collectors who care about the mechanics behind the work as much as the finished result. It is a space for material studies, experiments, references, and reflections that do not always fit neatly into product pages or visual storytelling.

This journal is meant to be informative rather than prescriptive. It offers transparency into how decisions are made, what questions are asked, and what we are learning along the way. Field Notes invites readers into the quieter, more analytical side of the practice, where craft, testing, and attention to detail guide the work forward.
